Welcome to another edition of “Games We’re Playing”. Our last post was written here, when Jeffrey wrote about going back to Half-Life 2 as well as play the then-newly released Battlefield 1. These posts are just another way we like to keep in touch with some of our viewers here on Mysteryblock Reviews and those checking out hardware, such as our list of AMD CPUs. If you are unfamiliar with the format, the author lists a few of the games he has been playing recently and writes about the experiences, why he chose those games to play, etc. It is a fun, unfiltered way to update you guys on our thoughts in gaming, which is a breath of fresh air from the strenuous reviews of hardware we do on a consistent basis.

Borderlands 2 on PC

The first time I played Borderlands 2 was actually on the Playstation 4 when the Handsome Collection came out for consoles. I had played the first game already, but did not jump on to play the next two games in the series until a remaster came out. But now I am playing Borderlands 2 again, this time on my personal desktop. I actually picked it up from a Steam Trade I did with one of my friends, after being encouraged to on Reddit. It is easy to want to replay some games just from hearing about them again.

The last character build I had was the Gunzerker. That man was fun to play as, and I successfully reached Level 40, having completed the main story as well as a majority of the side quests. I even got some of the DLC completed. However, I stopped playing after the formula got repetitive, but here I am on the PC playing the same game.

This time I am going for one of the newer characters: the Psycho. I actually didn’t notice I could play as the newer characters until a while. There were the original four for BL2: the Assassin, the Commando, the Siren, and the Gunzerker. And then two new characters came out later on: the Psycho and the Mechromancer. Check out the wiki pages for each of those if you’d like to read up on them.

Playing with the Psycho class is one of the best experiences, especially if playing on desktop computers.

Playing as the Psycho is miles more fun than the Gunzerker in my opinion. With the Psycho, you are definitely up close to the combat and everything seems more interactive when you are using your special ability. I will say one thing about the character, though. He is very flimsy. I mean that in a neutral way. You can stack up as much health and shield as you want, but at the end of the day, the character was made to be extremely destructive and chaotic, which means your in-game health is going to suffer when you get close to enemies and start melee-attacking them. One of the skill trees for the Psycho is even based around setting yourself on fire so you can give more fire damage to enemy characters. The point is that he’s fun to play, but use him wisely.

Horizon Zero Dawn

This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, and it is a console game. I am not going to bring up the console vs PC debate here, because I am quite clearly on the PC side (Mysteryblock reviews quite exclusively PC parts). But that does not mean I can’t appreciate what the consoles have to offer. Guerilla Games’ last project was the Killzone franchise, which I liked but for different reasons. They went a completely different route with Horizon Zero Dawn. Instead of an action thriller, they made an outstanding RPG game that is easily my early Game of the Year candidate.

I don’t have much more to say about the game considering I haven’t finished playing it and we aren’t in the game-reviewing business. Basically, though, the game looks amazing, runs fantastically on the Playstation 4, has awesome combat mechanics, and there are a ton of things to do in the enormous world.

  1. Man Horizon Zero Dawn is such a good game. Early contender for my game of the year though there have been a lot of games I’ve been playing on the PC that match up well..
